Options menu
The most commonly changed options are available as menu items under Options.
For even more options available, the Options window can be opened by selecting
the menu item Options / Other.
The Options menu items are:
Degrees and Radians
Select whether UltimaCalc calculates with angles in degrees or in radians.Logging
If a path has been specified to a log file, selecting this option enables logging of the calculations performed in the main window and other windows. The log file is a plain text file and can be read with Notepad.
Show Title Bar
To minimise the height of UltimaCalc's main window, the title bar can be hidden. You can still drag the main window around by clicking on the area to the right of the menus and dragging the mouse. When the mouse cursor is over this area, it changes from an arrow to a hand.
Precision
This menu item opens a subitem giving a choice as to the maximum number of digits to be displayed. When 'Auto' is selected, the maximum number of digits is limited to the number of digits that can be displayed. When the required precision is increased, UltimaCalc's main window may become wider to prevent clipping of the display.
Many special tool windows display their results according to the precision chosen here.
Logic
The choices here are Mathematical and Hand-held. Mathematical logic is used when entering
expressions and calculating them as complete expressions in their own right. The Hand-held mode of
operation tries to mimic that of a hand held calculator, in which the current expression may be considered
a continuation of the previous calculation. In this mode, if the expression you enter starts with an operator
(+, -, * or /), UltimaCalc will assume that you intend
this operator to act on the value previously calculated.
For example, if you wish to add up a table of numbers, you can enter the first one on its own, hit 'Enter', then enter the remaining numbers, each preceded by a plus (or minus) sign, In Hand-held mode, the input window is cleared the next time you start to type into it after performing a calculation. (Actually, if you do want to simply add up a table of numbers, using the Standard Deviation tool is a much better choice, as you can go back and correct any errors.)
Always on top
If you are using another program, and you wish to use UltimaCalc, at the same time. you can set UltimaCalc's main window to always stay on top, so that it doesn't disappear on you when you click on the other program.
Other
UltimaCalc has a large number of other options. Click on this menu item to gain access to them.
