Algebra UltimaCalc Module
In contrast to the calculation engine in UltimaCalc, which calculates with numbers and produces numeric result, the Algebra module deals with algebraic expressions, simplifying and manipulating them to usually obtain new algebraic expressions. You are encouraged to read through these pages to obtain at least some idea of the kind of operations of which Algebra UltimaCalc is capable.
Basic Operation
To perform algebraic operations, enter text into the lower window and hit the 'Enter' key. UltimaCalc will perform the required operation and show the input and output texts in the upper window. The default operation is to build an internal representation of the input, perform a quick simplification on this representation, and show the result of converting the representation back into text.
To copy the output text to the clipboard, click on the 'Copy' button. The text will be stored in a plain text format suitable for pasting into another program, such as Notepad and Word.
The 'Help' button opens the Algebra manual, which you are now reading.
The 'Options' button provides some options that control the way the Algebra module behaves. (More information)
The 'Symbols' button shows the values of any symbols that have been given values, and also provides a method of defining your own functions. (More information)
The 'Close' button closes the Algebra window.
Record your work - the Log file
All operations can be written automatically to UltimaCalc's log file. This is controlled from the UltimaCalc main window, by using the menu item Options / Logging. The log file is a plain unformatted text file of your choice and can be opened in any word processor or text editor, such as Notepad.
